Diagnosis of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction: eucapnic voluntary hyperpnoea challenges identify previously undiagnosed elite athletes with exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.

Conclusion The high proportion of previously undiagnosed athletes who demonstrated EVH positive suggests that elite athletes should be screened routinely for EIB using a suitable bronchoprovocation challenge. Suppressive Effects of Procaterol on Expression of IP-10/CXCL 10 and RANTES/CCL 5 by Bronchial Epithelial Cells

Abstract  As indicated in the Global Initiative for Asthma guidelines, short-acting β2-adrenoreceptor agonists (SABAs) are important relievers in asthma exacerbation. Interferon γ-inducible protein (IP)-10/CXCL 10 is a T-helper type 1 (Th1) cell-related chemokine which is important in the recruitment of Th1 cells involved in host immune defense against intracellular pathogens such as

Mometasone furoate versus beclomethasone dipropionate: effectiveness in patients with mild asthma.

CONCLUSIONS: Adherence to prescribed therapy among patients with mild asthma may be better with mometasone furoate versus beclomethasone dipropionate, as reflected in fewer exacerbations and more limited use of SABA rescue medications. Improved adherence to mometasone furoate versus beclomethasone dipropionate may be related to a simpler dosing regimen (ie, once daily vs twice daily). PMID: 20

Rhinovirus Infection of Allergen-Sensitized and -Challenged Mice Induces Eotaxin Release from Functionally Polarized Macrophages.

Authors: Nagarkar DR, Bowman ER, Schneider D, Wang Q, Shim J, Zhao Y, Linn MJ, McHenry CL, Gosangi B, Bentley JK, Tsai WC, Sajjan US, Lukacs NW, Hershenson MB Human rhinovirus is responsible for the majority of virus-induced asthma exacerbations. To determine the immunologic mechanisms underlying rhinovirus (RV)-induced asthma exacerbations, we combined mouse models of allergic airways disease
